Adolescent Psychotherapy
I work with adolescents aged 13 and over.
I have almost twenty years of working with adolescents in a previous role. I have always had an interest in this area and recognise the challenges adolescents face in an ever-changing world.
I am passionate about giving young people the space to explore their issues in a safe and non-judgemental environment.
I recognise that traditional therapy might prove daunting for adolescents. I strive to be creative and innovative collaborating with the client to understand their world using a variety of methodologies including art, music, movement etc.
First session
I first begin by meeting with Parents/carers to carry out a parental intake. This session is solely for parents/carers and the adolescent does not attend this session. During this session I will explore with parents/carers concerns for their adolescent and formulate a therapeutic plan.
Once the parental intake session has taken place. An appointment will be made for the adolescent to have an initial session. This session will give space to how we might work together. It will also give the adolescent a chance to meet me and decide if he/she would feel comfortable working with me. I always offer choice to the adolescent on whether they would like to start therapy based on this session.
Ongoing sessions.
Ongoing sessions will be typically 50 minutes to 1 hour in duration.
Parents/Carers are invited to attend a parental review every 6 to 8 weeks in order to review the adolescents therapeutic process, discuss any parental /carer concerns and resource Parents/carers in supporting their adolescents while in therapy.
This will be done with the full consent of the adolescent and discussed with them in advance. Just like adult psychotherapy, time will be spent building the relationship and sessions will always welcome feedback and review.
